How about a classic game, such as Sorry?

I like the game Apples to Apples. It uses vocabulary words and you have to pick one of 7 cards you have that best matches that. The judge then picks the one he/she thinks is closest to the definition of that world. It's very funny to see what people put. It's also a way to learn how your children think.

There are many boardgames for that age group. Some of the good ones are BattleShip, Monopoly, Life, or Clue. You can always find others in the local toy store

My nieces and nephews absolutely love playing Monopoly. They love the wheeling and dealing!!

Cranium makes some great games for adults and kids. They're creative and a lot of fun. If you're strictly looking for a smaller kid game, then try Candyland or Guess Who. Both are classics for a reason.

I'm a huge fan of Ravensburger games. In general, all the games have an educational element (even if it's completely masked by fun, puzzles, and a competitive spirit).

Ravensburger makes a great version of Tangram (an ancient Chinese Puzzle game based on shape combination). Although this game when played in a group doesn't have a clear winner (it's a collaborative game) it is a challenge and rewarding to complete.

My nephew, age 11, loves Scrabble. He's played it since he was 7 or 8. Sometimes we have to help him with making a word, but that's fine. It's a great educational game, and the kids don't care!

Blokus is also another good one. I was recently introduced to that one, and my nephew enjoys that as well.
