I'm getting fed up having to dye my hair often and would like to let it start coming in gray and eventually grow out the brown I have completely. I want to be gray all over. Any ideas on how you can do that without it looking a complete mess during the in between stages as your color changes? My hair's shoulder length and the gray's coming in more around my hairline than anywhere else.

I'm only in mid forties and can still get away with dyeing it for a few more years but quite honestly, I don't really want to. The condition gets really bad the more you do.

I don't want to have lots of gray roots and brown everywhere else either! Right now it's at the salt and pepper stage where it's a mixture of both, probably about 15% gray if I leave it untouched. I'm thinking I might need to get some kind of highlights or lowlights to blend it all?  Thanks.
