Do you think that makeup ages a woman? If so, at what age does that happen?

I have a theory that the more you wear, especially once you get past 40, the less makeup does to enhance your looks.

What makeup is suitable for a less youthful face? I'm asking about colors here as well as foundation types. Once you reach a certain age, is it better to give up makeup completely?

I see some very frightening looking elderly ladies in the store that look more clownish than stylish. Should it matter that I don't like it or not?
