Positive use of free time?
What do you consider to be the most positive or beneficial use of your free time?
I can think of a few different options and was wondering which you would prioritize if you had to choose and how much time you would devote to different activities.
For instance if you chose learning, family and TV, what percentage would you allocate to each? Here's my list of options:
- Family time
- Learning a new skill
- Relaxation
- Volunteer work
- Sleep
- Socializing with friends
- Networking
- Hobbies
- Other (please specify)
Thanks! I'm interested in work/life balance which is why I ask.
I practice my skills, read books, cook new recipes, browse what other people have done [creative-wise]. Go out for walks [otherwise, I don't get much exercise than this].
Family should always come first--you pretty much have things pretty much in good order, but Sleep should come third, then relaxation. I would like to be with the friends that I have before volunteer work. They mean a lot more to me. Then hobbies, and networking. You should allot more time to yourself because how much of the day is given to working [to support yourself and family]? You should think of it that way.
Hope this helps! :]

Basically make sure you take care of yourself and family before you do other stuff.
It's a difficult question to answer considering you're saying nothing of yourself. It depends on whether you live in a town or in the countryside, what gender and age you are, what you're working in and what natural gifts you have.
Indeed, practising one of your gift (singing, dancing, painting or whatever) is a very enjoyable way to spent spare time because you actually entertain both body and spirit, and eventually you can create something, which brings a lot of satisfaction.
I do not think you should "allocate" a percantage of your spare time to your activity. Why? Well, your life at work is probably pretty much scheduled, don't you think?
Plus, sometimes you would feel more inclined to volunteer, and at some other times you'd rather want to socialize with your friends... or do nothing. Why prioritize?
And finally, one activity that can be worth the spare time is: think about yourself, about your life, about how you feel. Manage some time to take care not about you, but about how you feel about you. Think about your realizations... at work, with your family, with your friends, with yourself. Are you happy? What do you like in you, and what you dislike? Finding your own answers... Actually, you'll find that pretty time consuming, it can really give a burst to all the other things you're going to tackle.
Good luck!
