We parents know that parenthood can be a shock to your system! Of course you're thrilled with your new baby, but minor and major adjustments have to be made to your lifestyle, your home, your relationships with friends and family, and even your thinking. It's a tremendous and tumultuous time!

What would you advise new parents to do? Is there anything you can see that in hindsight you wish you'd known when you started out on the road to parenthood? Please share your thoughts. Thanks!

We did this and it worked VERY well: during the day, make the formula at 75% to 80% strength. For the last late night feeding, mix the formula at 150% so the baby gets more actual nutrition from that last bottle. Our daughter was sleeping through the night before she was 2 months old.

If you have the chance to raise your child with a significant other, WORK TOGETHER! Take turns with the feedings and burpings and changings so that both of you have enough rest to give the baby your full attention when they need it. Take atvantage of the naps-they are the only times when you will really be able to get a whole lot done, or just take a nap yourself. Don't let the laundry pile up or you will never get caught up. If the baby is crying for no apparant reason(you've changed the diaper, fed them, burped them, still no change) try taking their temperature. They might be sick. Listen to your baby's cries, and you will find that there are different kinds. There will be one that says they are irritated, like they have a wet diaper, and one that says they are hungry, and so on. listen and get to know your baby.Don't carry your baby around 24/7 or they will not ever want to be put down. It is actually ok for a baby who is calm and content to lay in a bouncer or crib, or bassinette, but you should also make the time to play with your baby. Playing is how they learn, and it brings you closer. Learn where the balance is, and try your best to stick to it.

The thing that most new parents aren't told is that you will be permenantly tired for about three years. Constant work and little sleep.
It seems like a lot but it is over quicker than you think.

The other thing is that you will sometimes not like your baby, sometimes even wish he or she was not born, this is normal and temporary, but frightening.

Yes get the best equipment to help automate as much as possible and help parents relax during those first few hectic months. For instance...
1.Steam sterilisers instead of cold water sterilisers.
2. Electric breast pumps instead of hand pumps.
3. A baby monitor that also monitors the breathing with an alarm like the tommee tippee sensor pad monitor instead of a standard one so you can relax that your baby is breathing at night instead of checking up on them every five minutes.
4. Set up the nursery for mum as well as baby with a comfortable chair like a massage chair, a book, a TV and DVD player so mum can relax and enjoy nigh-time feeds.

The list could go on forever lol.

I hope this helps
