Problematic Boss
I am having a great bit of trouble with my boss.
I manage a team of 8 sales people in a high-tech industry. My team consistantly is one of the leading sales groups in our global company and it is a tight group that works well together.
The issue I am having is with my regional VP. She has asked me on a few occaisions to structure deals that are not really in the long term best interest of the company. When i have broached the subject with her she has not reacted well.
What is the best approach for handling the situation and doing what is best for my own career and the company as a whole.
You are in a super tough situation here, but I admire your values and giving into your superiors request for you to do something that could put the company at risk and I am sure the owner would love your loyalty. At time when many are risking their jobs to keep their jobs, it is great to see some of us won't sell out. I think that you should suggest a meeting with the owner/president and the VP to discuss the issue. Tell the VP that you are undecided due to the pros and cons and would like to review and brainstorm with others to strategize on ways to bring her vision to fruison and you may want to add that you will give x amount of time for her to arrange the meeting or you will have to arrange it, due to the uncomfortable feelings that you have surrounding this issue. Try to discuss everything in writing or at least enough to have some kind of evidence to support yourself. Or you can continue doing the right deals and let her play herself right to Karma's doorstep. Of course you have to evaluate the negitives and the positives of the actions she is suggesting and the real values of the folks that are running the show. Would they do it? cause if they would bend to increase business, they will not support you even though your reasoning was right on. Good luck and I would love to hear how it goes.
