Alternatives to politicians resigning over affairs?
What else do you think would be a suitable punishment for a politician that is caught having an affair? I don't think that resignation should be the only option.
I'm sure we've lost some very smart and experienced politicians that could have done their countries a lot of good because they were forced into a resignation over their lapse in judgment. Yes, they are politicians but they are also human and fallible.
There's no other job in the world I can think of, apart from the church perhaps, that demands you resign over who you sleep with. Isn't it time we came up with alternatives to resigning? A suspension for a while perhaps would be enough or a monetary fine.
I'm not condoning it. What I'm saying is that there has to be another way. Maybe their private life should remain just that. Unless their actions creates a threat to national security, I don't think asking for their resignation or firing them is necessary.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
Extramarital affairs do not force resignation. For example, the governor of SC has no intention of resigning.
