Getting into yoga is kind of a daunting task.  There's so many options out there that I don't even know where to begin.  Should I go to classes, watch dvds, or try out the Wii Fit?  I am overwhelmed...

Who has done yoga before?  How did you get into it?  What's the best way to start as a beginner?

Please include some mention of the cost of each method too.  Thanks.

yoga has both a physical and spiritual ( as in of the mind ) dimension. Before starting with the physical aspect, make up your mind to add something to your life with yoga ( because yoga in hindi means adding ). With this mindset, start easy physical routine at fixed time daily. This would mean respiration techniques and body movements coordinated in a natural manner and these are taught in training classes. If you can do it from some good video, this would do.

Consider going to a class first. Many places will offer a free introductory class, or at a discount. You may have to shop around a bit for the best price, but there are places around me that offer classes for as low as $10 per class (after your intro class).

The benefit of going to a class, is you can speak to the instructor first and tell them its your first time and ask them to keep an eye on you. A good instructor will do their best to help you properly execute the pose so you're gaining the most benefit and not hurting yourself. However, be prepared that in a class you will be touched by your instructor. They will help position your body, so if you don't like being touched - classes probably aren't right for you at all.

I would say to avoid a Bikram Yoga class your first time out the gate as yoga can be quite challenging and adding the element of a 100 degree room with 40% humidity may turn you off.

Try Yoga to your home first or do it outdoor and register to your local gym and do some lessons too. It will help you a lot to follow some lessons, that you can use after like you want with a book guide.

Before you go to class, start taking Beano supplement. :)

Definitely begin with a class to gain hands-on guidance.
